Working with

Schools

The story of 'The Hippocrocodogapig' is very much in line with the core values at the heart of the majority of primary schools in teaching children kindness and embracing difference.

It is an absolute pleasure for me to work with primary schools, whether I'm reading 'The Hippocrocodogapig', answering questions and/or hosting competitions. Having worked with a number of schools now, I have been greeted by very excited children, amazing teachers and a real sense of encouraging creativity in the classroom.

Hosting Readings

It takes approximately 7-10 minutes to read 'The Hippocrocodogapig.

When hosting the reading, I join school video links and can do this in line with the requirements of the school.

I then read the story with the pages of the book displayed on the screen for the children to see.

I like to do the reading this way as the illustrations are bright and colourful and so far, all the children who I have shown the book to love them and have been fully engaged in the story.

"Thank you so much for giving your time today and sharing the story with the children.

Very lovely for them to meet a real author!"

Question Time

We all know that children love to ask a multitude of questions. I am amazed at some of the questions I have had from such young children about writing the story, illustrating and about being an author.

I am always happy to offer this to schools.  I think I enjoy it more than anyone!

Draw your Own Combination Character Competition

Following a reading of the book, the schools I have worked with so far have embraced the idea of a competition where the children draw their own version of a Hippocrocodogapig or even their own combination animal character.

I have seen some wonderful drawings showing how creative children can be at such a young age. The image featured here is a favourite so far. The artist has even used the colours of the Hippocrocodogapig in creating her own imaginative character.

The winner of the competition was given her very own signed copy of the book with a big congratulations from me.

"That was brilliant, what a great book! It will be so helpful for our topic in Rhyming that we do in the Autumn term.

The children are now hard at work drawing their creatures."

I have created a range of posters, puzzles and worksheets.

The posters are in-keeping with the story of 'The Hippocrocodogapig' and encourage children to be kind and not leave anyone sad and lonely.

There are also word searches, a maze puzzle and some other worksheets.  I can tailor these to the requirements of the school.
